Ms. Kujichagulia has been a freedom fighter in the community for decades, and a mother figure to me, for more than half of my life. Her knowledge and politics have always impressed me. Her passion to teach Black people to do better in the world, despite all of the hurdles and obstacles put in front of us, has always inspired me. Originally from Hunter’s Point, San Francisco but residing in Oakland, Ms. Kujichagulia is a very well known speaker, author, musician, singer, and much more. Along with her adult twin daughters, Taiwo and Kehinde, she has created a public affairs show that comes on every Sunday, starting at 3pm, called “Name It! Claim It! End It…Racism!” on Facebook and Youtube.
In the spirit of the Black Panther newspaper in the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s, and the televised classes of Dr. Yusef Bey in the 90’s on Soulbeat, finally there is a locally created Black women-led social media show discussing: politics, critical thinking, education, health, parenting, current events, teaching in the Oakland Unified School District, plus much more. For all of the Black women and men that want to delve deep into some of the issues plaguing us, to get a greater understanding, we no longer have to sift through Hollywood b.s., just to get a few nuggets of knowledge out. “Name It! Claim It! End It…Racism!” is a Bay Area based show built for revolutionary Black people, by revolutionary Black people.
This is just part 1, of the discussion that I had with Ms. Kujichagulia about the world that we live in, check out part 2 in about a week. Stay tuned to the words of Ms. Kujichagulia, of “Name It! Claim It! End It…Racism!”, sign up, watch it, and actively show your support.
JR Valrey: What’s the name of your show? And what is it about?
Ms. Kujichagulia: Since America goes to great lengths to ignore, tolerate, deny, and thus protect racism, our Facebook show is called “Name it! Claim it! End it…RACISM!” Our program discusses the reality of racism, throughout every area of society, by analyzing the history and language of racism. For example, America uses the false concept of “race” to confuse people while actually protecting the real problem, racism. So we provide language that empowers people, rather than continue using language that enslaves our minds. It airs live every Sunday at 3:00 pm PST. Earlier broadcasts can also be viewed on YouTube.
JR Valrey: What made you create a show like this? Why do you feel like these issues are especially pertinent right now?
Ms. Kujichagulia: “Name it! Claim it! End it…RACISM”, was actually the brain-child of my twin daughters, Taiwo Kujichagulia-Seitu and Kehinde Salter. My Ibeji (twins), both educators with the OUSD, convinced me that I could utilize social media to continue my 50-year-long battle against racism. Ironically, I initially did not want to do a show because I was busy rewriting my book, “Recognizing & Resolving the Roots of Racism”, and developing “THINK OUTSIDE the BOX Brain Games” – curriculum, tools and resources that transform disinterested, low-performing students into excited, high-achieving scholars while resolving racism, advancing education, generating jobs, and fighting social injustice. However, once George Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis police officers on May 25, 2020, human beings around the world began demanding justice (the elimination of racism). Those events actually precipitated the perfect storm that brought about our Facebook program. Consequently, we began broadcasting during the summer of 2020.
Needless to say, racism (society based on the myth of white supremacy) remains a pertinent issue and crime against humanity, since its demonic inception in the late 15th century. However, pandemic lock-downs gave people the time and space, to actually (1) witness George Floyd’s murder, (2) acknowledge the ubiquity of global racism, (3) protest against racist injustice, or (4) protest against those demanding justice.
Although the concept of racism was invented to rationalize Caucasian colonization, global land theft, and enslavement capitalism, America still protects racism and promotes the lies of democracy and the myth of white supremacy, in order to continue its domination over and exploitation of global resources. While racism is busy promoting the propaganda that America is great, we focus on the historic events and anthropological evidence that proves America is G.R.E.A.T. (Guilty of Racist Evil Aryan Terrorism). The show basically encourages viewers to think critically and independently about everything, because America is a country founded in hypocrisy.
For example, the current insanity being promoted by racism is that Whites are indigenous to northern Africa and southern Eurasia, thereby enabling Caucasians to “lie” claim to the magnificent civilizations and great empires that evolved in and around Black Africa. Racism must deny African/Black genius and the Black/African origins of humanity and civilization, in order to continue the propaganda of white supremacy. However, not only is it a scientific and physiological impossibility for Whites to be indigenous to any sun-drenched regions of Africa, the Mediterranean area, etc., thus, German anthropologist Johann Friedrich Blumenbach classified “Whites” as Caucasians because Whites evolved in Russia’s Caucasus Mountain Range, 4000+ miles north of Africa.
Fortunately, the human race survived and thrived for 150,000 years prior to the invention of racism and the myth of separate and unequal races. Our objective is to reveal and eliminate these lies, so that people can resume life as one race of human, and hopefully, humane beings.
JR Valrey: What is the importance of having our own Black independent media?
Ms. Kujichagulia: It’s more important that any independent media company be void of racist stereotypes, rhetoric, propaganda, and injustice (racism, sexism, classism, materialism, ageism, etc.) regardless of the owner’s genetic makeup (color). However, it’s equally important that 100,000 years of Black culture and history prior to racism, be vividly presented as well. And of course, it would be revolutionary to have Black-owned media and businesses supported by, and responsible for the Black/African community.
JR Valrey: As a long time educator in the Bay Area, what are your thoughts on how the Covid pandemic is affecting the education of Black children locally?
Ms. Kujichagulia: Irrespective of Covid-2019, this nation’s mis-education system remains inadequate. I am more concerned about Covid19-vaccine-status being exploited to implement further racist segregation policies, Apartheid-like containment practices, and/or neo-Nazi extermination procedures.
JR Valrey: What do you think about the national disaster that took place in Texas and the lack of assistance offered to the Black community? Can you specifically address the variable utility rates?
Ms. Kujichagulia: Of course, variable utility rates are symptomatic of capitalistic greed. As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. recognized, American capitalism “denies necessities to the masses in order to provide luxuries for a few.” Capitalism (maximum exploitation of people and resources/land to maximize private profits) is allowed to overcharge unsuspecting citizens for essential public services, insurance requirements, healthcare, housing, taxes, etc. We shouldn’t be shocked and surprised, when capitalism does as capitalism is. Racist capitalism is about private profits, not the public welfare. So America chooses to build border walls, rather than upgrade the nation’s infrastructure. Capitalism gets rich, yet fails to renovate the nation’s sewer system, refuses to modernize the telecommunications grid, denies citizens a living-wage, and over-taxes the public, all while private profits soar. Within one year of this pandemic, working Americans have lost approximately $4 billion in earnings and assets, while the super-rich have gained approximately $4 billion in assets. What’s wrong with this picture? Such inequality, injustice, and inequity is caused by capitalism.
JR Valrey: What do you think about the Black parents of students in Oakland organizing for reparations? What would reparations look like on a local educational level?
Ms. Kujichagulia: Yes, please! All cultures, countries, and human beings everywhere that have been invaded, terrorized, and traumatized by European (English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Dutch, etc.) immigration, colonization, enslavement capitalism, and on-going genocide should be demanding justice (reparations/equity) from their respective English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Dutch, etc. colonizers. Needless to say, no amount of paper money could ever begin to repair more than half a millennium of racist psychotic violence – enslavement, torture, lynchings, rape, land theft, cultural destruction, and genocide. So yes, organize for reparations: charge all colonizing countries with genocide, and return all stolen fossils, artifacts, land, and property to their indigenous homelands.
Most importantly, don’t reinvent the wheel. Do some research; elders are your best direct source of historic information. So if feasible, join N’COBRA (National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America), the oldest and only authentic grass-roots organization that has been, and continues to fight for reparations in the USA.
JR Valrey: How have you been coping during the covid pandemic? Will you be volunteering to get the vaccine? Why or why not?
Ms. Kujichagulia: In addition to coping with the now, year-long pandemic, I am also coping with five hundred-plus years of persistent racism. Both racism and Covid-2019 are more problematic for Melanites (melanin-rich human beings, non-Whites). Also, those whose immune systems are impaired, due to the unrelenting stress and traumatic psycho-sociological conditions experienced from daily racism are “disproportionately affected.” This psycho-sociological damage is physiologically manifested, then exasperated by a lack of affordable consistent health care, a lack of health insurance, a lack of paid sick-leave, etc. Then adding insult to injury, racism promotes the propaganda that Blacks and Latinos have some inherent genetic defect which causes them to be “disproportionately affected”, by the pandemic.
In any event, as an intelligent human being and germo-phobe, I boost my immune system by eating to live. I also safeguard both my mental and physical health. So while the vaccine does NOT protect one from contracting and/or transmitting the virus, naturally boosting the immune system will definitely help protect one from getting sick – colds, flu, Covid-2019, etc. While Caucasians culture in the western hemisphere is practicing medicine, I know what I’m doing. Moreover, unlike chemically engineered vaccines, fresh/raw fruits and vegetables have only regenerating, beneficial side-effects. Additionally, society will not know the full, long-term side-effects and consequences of the Corona Virus vaccine until at least one vaccinated generation reproduces offspring. No thanks. As far as I’m concerned, no amount of money, or any type of incentive would encourage me to get vaccinated.
JR Valrey: What do you hope that people get out of the show?
Ms. Kujichagulia: We all must take responsibility for eliminating injustice. Just like climate change; we didn’t start it but we all need to take responsibility for it. We must stop talking about and around the myth of race, and start acknowledging the ubiquitous reality of racism. No matter how uncomfortable, we must acknowledge and resolve America’s 500 plus year-long history of colonization and white psychopathy – a narcissistic personality disorder of extreme egocentricity, arrogance and a complete lack of empathy or remorse for others; it’s distinguished by a persistent pattern (529 years and counting) of disregard for, and the violation of the social, civil, and human rights of others, especially Blacks/Africans.
As long as every aspect and area of American culture (economics, education, entertainment, family, labor, law, politics, religion, science, war, symbols and language) is rooted in this psychopathy, racism will thrive. So in order to destroy racism and the myth of white supremacy, we must replace the diabolical myth of separate and unequal races, with the truth of one human (HUEwombman) race.
JR Valrey: Where can people follow the show and you online? Thank you.
